POL ROGER TO DISTRIBUTE "THE KING OF WINES"

Pol Roger Ltd have announced their appointment as UK agents for Crown Estates of Hungary, the leading Hungarian owned producer of Tokaji wines. The most famous wine of the Tokaj-Hegyalja region in north-east Hungary, is Tokaji Aszú. This rich, honeyed dessert wine balanced with refreshing acidity was called the ‘wine of kings, king of wines’ by Louis XIV of France.

Crown Estates of Hungary own the former Imperial ‘Szarvas’ great first growth vineyard (the finest location in the region), which supplied Monarchs around Europe. Wines from this outstanding vineyard will be available in the UK. They also own the unique Museum Cellar, stocked with outstanding vintages dating back to 1906. These superb wines are tended by cellarmasters, who were taught by the winemakers active prior to the Communist era which isolated the region from the western consumer.

Previously known as Tokaj Kereskedőház Rt, Crown Estates of Hungary has recently made significant investments in winemaking and the re-packaging of its wines, with new labels designed by Amphora of Bath. In addition the change of agency sees the introduction of two quality dry varietal white wines under the Castle Island brand produced with guidance from Angela Muir MW. The Furmint and Hárslevelű varieties are used for the famous Aszú wines in good botrytis years.
